Annamaria Ficara is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Messina, Italy. She received her B.S. degree (with honors) in Computer Science from the University of Messina, Italy, in 2016; her M.S. degree (with honors) in Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Messina, Italy, in 2018; and her Ph.D. degree in Mathematics and Computational Sciences from the University of Palermo, Italy, in 2022. Her main research interests are network science, social network analysis, criminal networks, and complex systems. She is part of the following research groups at the University of Messina: Complex Networks and Artificial Intelligence, Future Computing Research Laboratory (FCRLab), and e-Health Continuum Research Lab (eHCR LAB). She is involved in several national and international projects, such as SAMOTHRACE, EU-H2020 NEUROKIT-2E, and ATM. She is the author of several scientific articles and proceedings of international conferences. She won the best paper and presentation award at the international conference EAI FABULOUS 2021 with a paper about using a multilayer approach on criminal networks. She is part of the
Editorial board of the Elsevier Journal of Network and Computer Applications, Academic Editor for Plos Complex Systems, Guest Editor for Plos One. Lead Guest Editor of the Special Issue (SI) “Complex networks for Smart environments management” on the Journal of Network and Computer Applications, and Guest Editor for two editions of the SI “Artificial intelligence methods in complex networks” on Applied Sciences. Expert reviewer of more than 100 scientific articles for more than 20 prestigious journals of the computer science area.
